Text by Dave Moorman
Bruce Thomas and others have seen
to getting the remarkable work of
Cleveland M. Blakemore in public
domain and fully documented. Cleve was
for Ahoy! what Buck Childress was for
Compute!'s Gazette and Gus Valkais was
for LOADSTAR during the glory days of
C-64 computing.
As I wandered through Cleve's
games, I saw he did what Independent
Programmers do best:
Got an Idea.
Developed a "metaphor."
Crafted a game.
Used the unique power of the C-64.
Wrote the introduction/documentation.
This last, Cleve does with wit and
whimsy -- carrying us into new and
extraordinary worlds where the game
will come alive. Then he makes the
game itself downright compelling.
No whizbang, 3D, blood-squirting
graphics. No concept artists or sound
design teams. No middle management
wondering if they will get fired. No
upper management wondering if this
release will make back the cool
half-million already committed.
Just Cleve, or one of Compute!'s
or LOADSTAR's stable of unstable
Independent Programmers making
something absolutely new. And with
this platform, one or two people can
make an excelling piece of
entertainment.
You all know what I mean. You know
that this platform has more room for
imagination than limits on technical
pazzaz. And we have only scratched
the possibilities of imagination!
Enjoy these Four by Cleve!
